Patient advice and liaison service (PALS)

PALS deskThe patient advice and liaison service (PALS) is there to help when you need advice, want answers to questions, want to know who to talk to or find out how to get help. As a patient, relative or carer sometimes you may need to turn to someone for on-the-spot help, advice and support. This is where PALS comes in.

PALS provide confidential advice and support, helping you to sort out any concerns that you may have about any aspect of NHS care.

The service provides:

  • advice and support to patients, their families and carers
  • information on NHS services
  • help to sort out problems quickly on your behalf and listens to your concerns, suggestions or queries

PALS acts independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and, where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate prompt solutions. If necessary, they can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.

The PALS leaflet, explaining what PALS does and how you can contact them, is available in an easy read format and in several languages and can be downloaded either as a word document or as a PDF. Access PALS information in other languages
